Lampard reacts as Silva wins Chelsea’s player of the season award

Brazil star Thiago Silva has continued to be a key player at Stamford Bridge despite his age.

Silva who is 38-year-old remains a role player in Chelsea’s defence and was recognised by fans at the end of this season.

This comes after Silva won the Blues Player of the Season award, which was by an online poll of supporters.

The Brazilian won the poll as 61 per cent of those who participated cast their vote in favour of the defender, making him only the second person from Brazil to receive the award, following Willian in 2016.

Reacting to Silva’s win, Chelsea’s outgoing manager Frank Lampard, who signed the Brazil star three seasons ago described him as an amazing player.

Lampard said In a statement via Chelsea’s website, ‘Thiago is another version of an amazing player who has come here at the back end of his career, has brought into the club, fallen in love with the club I think, had the success of winning the Champions League. He’s just an incredible centre-back.

‘When I brought him to the club I thought I knew he was a top player. I didn’t realise just how good he is.’
