EPL: Tuchel reveals he made the wrong decision by playing this striker vs West Ham

Chelsea manager and Germany international in a recent statement has disclosed that he made the wrong decision by playing Belgium international Romelu Lukaku during their weekend game vs West Ham.

Tuchel brought in Lukaku in the second half of the match after Kai Havertz sustained an injury.

The Belgian striker has made only three appearances for the Blues since returning from the ankle injury he suffered in October.

Tuchel, in a recent statement, said the 28-year-old was not “physically” ready to play 45 minutes of football.

Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Tuchel said: “It’s my fault. I don’t think he is ready for 45 minutes of physicality but still, we decided to bring him on for his height because we lost Kai.

“Kai had a crucial role in defending set-pieces, which is a huge threat from West Ham, so this is on me. I took the decision so it’s my responsibility.”

It is unknown if Lukaku will be able to play against Zenit in the UCL on Wednesday night.

Tuchel might play Timo Werner instead of the Belgian striker at the front.
