Chelsea too reliant on goalkeepers
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted that his side are too reliant on their goalkeepers this season.
The Blues have conceded just three goals in nine Premier League matches, and this has seen them become the team that possess the best defensive record so far this season.
Chelsea goalkeepers Mendy Edouard and Kepa Arrizabalaga have also been impressive during penalty shootouts on three occasions this season, against Spanish side Villarreal in the UEFA Super Cup, also against Aston Villa and Southampton in the Carabao League.
Tuchel, while speaking on Chelsea defensive record, said, “It is one key, but it is not enough to have one key. We have a lot of doors to open. Let’s be honest, we are relying too much on the performances of our goalkeepers this season.”
The German manager, however, said his side still have specific stability to overcome difficult situations, which is a good thing.
“We believe we can overcome them, because we have overcame them, we have this experience together, we are a tough team to score against and this is proven. But we still need to keep working,” Tuchel added.
Chelsea will return to action this weekend when they face Newcastle United in the EPL.
