Chelsea may already have a replacement for Alonso

With Chelsea’s left-back defender Marcos Alonso already linked with moves to Spanish side Barcelona, the Blues may already have a player that could come in as his replacement.

The player is no other person than Italian star Emerson Palmieri.

While he hasn’t spoken with manager Thomas Tuchel about a return to Chelsea this summer, the Italian international revealed he would be “very happy” to come back to the club after spending the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Ligue 1 side Lyon.

Emerson moved to France last August after he fell behind Ben Chilwell and Marcos Alonso in the pecking order at left wing-back under Tuchel.

However, Tuchel on multiple occasions spoke on the professionalism with which Emerson carried himself.

This summer may be the best time for the defender to return as Chilwell is only joining regaining form after he had suffered a knee ligament injury in November that ruled him out for almost five months.

Chelsea during the season attempted to end the Italian international’s loan early but it didn’t work out.

Emerson is expected to return to Stamford Bridge this summer.
