Ballon d’Or: Chelsea goalie feels he would have been nominated if he had done this
Chelsea goalkeeper and Senegal international Edouard Mendy, in a recent statement, stressed that he would have been a part of the 30-man list for this year’s Ballon d’Or if he had played for France national team.
Mendy was spectacular for Chelsea last season as he kept nine clean sheets with the Blues going all the way to win the Uefa Champions Trophy.
Despite his top performance for the west London club, Mendy was not recognised for the prestigious individual honour for the best players in the world, and he has reacted to the snub.
“It’s something that motivates me and pushes me to work. Honestly, I am wondering.
“If I had played for France and had taken part in the Euro, would we have this debate and this reflection?” Mendy told Canal Plus via Wiw Sport.
While Mendy didn’t make the list, Chelsea players N’Golo Kante from France and Jorginho from Italy made the list and are among the favourites tipped to win the award this year.
In another news, Chelsea remain seated at the top of the EPL log table.
