World Cup: Age doesn’t reduce performance in football – Former Chelsea goalie replies De Bruyne

Belgium goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has sent a message to his national teammate and Manchester City midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne, about age not reducing performance in football.

This comes after De Bruyne during an interview in Qatar had claimed that some of Belgium’s players are too old now as they managed a 1-0 win over Canada in their first game of the tournament.

There is a possibility Belgium could crash out of the World Cup in the group stage as they lost 2-0 against Morocco last weekend.

Anything other than an outright win in their next group game vs Croatia will see the European giants crash out of the tournament.

Speaking at a press conference from Belgium’s training camp on Tuesday, Courtois, a former Chelsea and now Real Madrid goalkeeper said: “The words about the age of our defence? Luka Modric proves that age has no link with performance. Look at Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, it’s the same.”
