Why Mendy turned down Chelsea new offer

Chelsea goalkeeper and Senegal international Edouard Mendy has reportedly turned down a contract extension with the club.

After they sealed a new six-year deal with Reece James, the Blues turned their focus on Mason Mount and Mendy, who they also want to give a contract extension.

While Mount is likely to agree to a new deal at Chelsea, the report revealed Mendy’s contract talks are proving to be challenging.

While Mendy has come under massive criticism this season for his many mistakes that have cost the Blues some points, the west Londoner are, however, keen on extending his current deal which expires in June 2025.

A report via the Evening Standard revealed Mendy has already turned down an offer from Chelsea after being presented with inferior terms to backup goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

While Kepa reportedly earns £190,000 a week, Mendy is said to be one of the lowest earners at Chelsea after he signed a deal with them from Rennes in 2020.

Aside from Mendy and Mount, Chelsea are also looking to talk about the future of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, who both have less than 12 months remaining on their contracts.
