A latest report has claimed that Portugal international Bruno Fernandes, who joined Man Utd in 2020, was close to leaving the club at some point.

According to a report via The Athletic, the Portuguese midfielder had threatened to leave Old Trafford after the Red Devils, alongside 11 other clubs sign up for the proposed European Super League.

Fernandes, who joined Man Utd in January 2020 from Sporting Lisbon, has become one of the most important players at Old Trafford.

However, the reports revealed that the Red Devils were just one decision away from losing the Portugal international.

The report revealed that Man Utd defender Luke Shaw was another player that spoke against the decision of the club to join the breakaway competition in April.

According to the report, Fernandes and Shaw were angry with the Man Utd’s involvement in the controversial league and took serious measures to ensure the club hierarchy understood their stance.

They reportedly questioned executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward on the club’s involvement and treating the players like ‘children’ and ‘assets’.
