Chelsea manager and Germany international Thomas Tuchel has expressed his delight over the new agreement that was reached between the club and Brazil international Thiago Silva.

This comes after Chelsea earlier this week announced it has extended the contract of the Brazil defender, which is supposed to expire at the end of this season.

The new deal means Silva will remain at Stamford Bridge until 2023.

Speaking on the development ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg tie against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday night, Tuchel said during his pre-match press conference: “He’s like Benjamin Button. Thiago Button the footballer!.

“But I know how much work and professional attitude is behind that. It is a miracle, in a way, because he came to this league, with the schedule and the approach and the intensity on a daily basis at the very end of his career, which was very brave.

“We are happy because the new contract makes him calm.

“Thiago needs to be calm because he is a sensitive and emotional person. That makes him so precious for our team and our dressing room. He can feel different states of emotions from others, and can help so much with this.”
