Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has sent a message to the club’s players amid their poor form this season.

Recall that the Red Devils led by manager Erik ten Hag have failed to impress in their last three matches.

They suffered an embarrassing defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, were held to a draw against Porto in the Europa League and then another draw against Aston Villa before the international break.

While Ten Hag is under scrutiny over the club’s poor form, Rooney opined that the players also need to take some responsibility for the current predicament.

Rooney in a statement via Sky Sports said anyone would admit that Manchester United want to be challenging for titles.

According to the former football star, for the Red Devils to be at the 14th spot means everyone at the club should know they need to improve.

He stressed that he is certain Ten Hag is doing everything he can to improve the club, while calling on players to do better than what they’re doing.

“There is a big turnaround of players over the last few years. You just want to see them challenging again,” Rooney said.

Meanwhile, Man United will return to action in the Premier League on October 19 when they host Thomas Frank’s Brentford to Old Trafford.
