The January transfer window could witness the return of Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea back to Old Trafford.

According to reports, De Gea could consider a return to Man Utd, where he emerged as one of the club’s greatest goalkeepers during his time in the Premier League.

Recall that the goalie exited Old Trafford following a disagreement over his contract and signed a deal with Italian club Fiorentina in August 2024.

However, former Spain international Gaizka Mendieta said his Spanish compatriot would contemplate a second return to Old Trafford after a 12 year spell at the club.

After De Gea’s exit, Man Utd were yet to get it right at the goal post, with André Onana’s struggling since his arrival two years ago.

The Red Devils signed Senne Lammens in the summer transfer window but manager Rúben Amorim continue to place his trust in Altay Bayındır and Tom Heaton within the squad.

“David de Gea was very happy at Man Utd,” Mendieta told OLBG.

Mendieta believes the Spaniard would consider a return to the club even though he is happy where he is.

Meanwhile, Man Utd will return to action this weekend when they play against Sunderland in the EPL.
