Fernandes could get his preferred shirt number if this player leaves Old Trafford

Ahead of next season, a report has emerged that Man Utd midfielder, Bruno Fernandes could be getting his preferred shirt number.

This is according to the Mirror UK report, which said that Fernandes who has been using the number 18 since his arrival at Old Trafford in 2020 from Sporting Lisbon could finally get his dream shirt number.

Recall that the Portugal international picked the number after signing a £46.6million deal with the Red Devils and the number has remained with him since then.

The report however disclosed that there could be a change next season as Fernandes could get his preferred number 8 jersey, with Juan Mata already close to leaving Old Trafford.

Mata, who has been restricted to the role of squad player in recent years seems to be on the verge of leaving as there is interest in him from abroad.

He has been linked with moves to the Spanish La Liga and the Major League Soccer MLS.

There are also reports that the Red Devils are working out an agreement to ensure he stays put at the club.

We will have to wait till the commencement of the summer transfer window to see how it all goes.
