Amorim says this Man Utd star is a leader again

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim in a recent statement stated that deposed captain Harry Maguire is now a leader.

Recall that Maguire the Man Utd captain band under former manager Erik ten Hag who chose Bruno Fernandes instead.

Maguire was also linked with moves away from Old Trafford including him turning down the chance to move in the summer.

The English defender stayed put at Old Trafford, going on to outlast Ten Hag, who was sacked in October.

Aside from that, Maguire has retaken his spot in the Red Devils squad, becoming one of Amorim’s key men.

He has taken up the central role in the former Sporting boss’ defensive back three.

Maguire was impressive for the Red Devils in their FA Cup win at Arsenal at the weekend even though he had missed training because of illness in the build-up.

Amorim in a statement via BBC said he felt Maguire is a leader again and feels more like an important player in the team.

“We have to praise Harry more than me. He was sick before the last game and was dead in the end. That is what I want from every player,” Amorim said.

While the defender is right-footed, former manager Old Gunnar Solskjaer used him on the left of his central defence.
