With less than a week to the end of the January transfer window, a latest report has claimed that Man Utd star Jesse Lingard is set to join Newcastle United on loan.

Lingard’s current deal at Old Trafford is expected to lapse at the end of this season, after which he would become a free agent.

The Magpies are reportedly planning to sign him on loan in January with an option of signing him permanently at the end of the season.

This was made public by popular football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, who said Newcastle is negotiating with Man United and Lingard’s representatives in a bid to sign the England international this month.

“Newcastle will push again on Jesse Lingard’s deal in the next hours. Magpies board working hard to sign Jesse at least until the end of the season, then he’ll become a free agent,” Romano wrote on Twitter on Monday.

“Negotiations are ongoing with both Manchester United and Lingard representatives.”

The deal is expected to go through before the end of this week.
