Former Chelsea captain announces retirement

Former Chelsea captain, Gary Cahill has announced his retirement from football.

Cahill who turns 37 in December, made the announcement public via his social media timeline on Wednesday, having most recently played for Bournemouth in the Championship last season.

The former Blues captain spent seven-and-a-half seasons at Stamford Bridge and was impressive throughout his career with the club.

Cahill helped the Blues lift eight major titles including two Premier League titles and their first Champions League title, which came just months after he joined them from Bolton Wanderers.

The former captain had his final runout at Stamford Bridge when he came in as a late substitute in May 2019 when he made his 291st Chelsea appearance.

He had a record of 25 goals with the Blues before going on to play another two seasons in the Premier League with Crystal Palace.
