Chelsea may have been given a lift in their quest for Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez after he conceded he ‘cherishes’ the club.

Frank Lampard is in the market for another defender this summer to help tackle his side’s cracked barrier, with West Ham’s Declan Rice thought to be their top target.

Jose Gimenez uncovered he upheld Chelsea as a youngster and that he needed to play under the present manager Frank Lampard.

He said in a meeting with La Liga: I would have jumped at the chance to play under Frank Lampard.
