World Cup: Chelsea star shines for Germany but it was all in vain

There was an unexpected result during the Thursday clash between Germany and Costa Rica in the ongoing World Cup in Qatar.

The outcome saw Germany being kicked out of the group stage for the second successive World Cup.

They were eliminated on goal difference compared to Spain, who finished second to another unexpected group winner in Japan.

The game between Germany and Costa Rica saw the German side in an early lead before a rare error from Manuel Neuer gifted Costa Rica an equalizer early in the second half.

Costa Rica then scored another goal which would have put them into the Last 16 with a Spain victory, but Chelsea star Kai Havertz scored an equaliser for Germany and a brace after coming on and Niclas Füllkrug adding a fourth, but it was far too late to conquer Spain’s far superior goal difference (thanks to their first game Costa Rica, where they scored 7 goals.)
