World Cup: Chelsea star reacts after being left out of England squad
Chelsea right-back Reece James has reacted after he was left out of the England national squad to play in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
James in his statement said he is ‘devastated’ to miss out on the tournament.
The Blues star was unable to make it to Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad owing to a knee injury he sustained in mid-October.
James revealed that immediately after he sustained that injury he knew it would be difficult to recover and be part of the England squad.
Southgate has opted for Kieran Trippier, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker for the right-back position.
“Devastated,’” wrote James on Twitter.
“The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turnaround to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible.
“I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believe I could help the team.
“I appreciate there was risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take. Good luck to the boys. I’ll be back soon. Stay safe & send love.”
