Why Chelsea failed to beat Burnley

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino in a post-match statement has explained why the Blues failed to beat Burnley in Saturday’s Premier League tie.

The match saw Burnley holding Chelsea to a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Cole Palmer scored the opening goal from the penalty spot for the host just before halftime after Lorenz Assignon was sent off for fouling Mykhailo Mudryk in the box.

Josh Cullen scored an equaliser just minutes after the break, before Palmer scored what was thought to be the winning goal late on.

But Dara O’Shea’s strike in the 81st minute ensured the two sides split the three points.

Reacting to the match, Pochettino said the Blues failed to score a lot of goals from the many chances they created against Burnley.

According to the Blues manager, his team didn’t manage to deal with the situation in the second half.

“We are very disappointed and frustrated in the way that in the second half, we didn’t manage to deal with the situation,” said Pochettino.

“We are a team that when we play in possession and go forward are capable of creating many chances, but we didn’t score with the chances we created.”
