Why Chelsea are selling top players to rival clubs

Former Chelsea player Florent Malouda in a recent statement has shared his thought on why top players are leaving the club this summer.

According to Malouda, Chelsea are selling ‘better’ players to rival clubs because the affected players do not believe in the vision and project under American billionaire Todd Boehly.

Italian midfielder Jorginho joined Arsenal during the January transfer window while Mateo Kovacic recently signed Premier League champions Manchester City.

German forward Kai Havertz also completed a transfer to Arsenal in the ongoing summer window.

N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly have also completed transfers to Saudi Pro League clubs, and more are to follow as Chelsea plan to avoid breaking the Financial Fair Play FFP rule.

Manchester United are keen on signing Mason Mount, while Hakim Ziyech is likely to leave.

“Chelsea didn’t sell players to rivals under Roman Abramovich for one simple reason: the club was very competitive,” Malouda told Genting Casino.

“Players wanted to stay because there was a winning mentality—Chelsea were always competing for the biggest prizes.

“What we’re seeing at the moment, selling players to rivals, isn’t solely to do with FFP; this is because the players that are going to move on don’t really believe in what is happening at the club.”
