Fofana, who joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022, had high expectations but was soon sidelined by a knee injury after only two Premier League appearances. His comeback in February was short-lived as he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in the summer of 2023, causing him to miss the entire 2024/25 season under Mauricio Pochettino.
When asked in May about Fofana’s potential return for the American tour, which includes matches against Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid, Pochettino said, “We hope so, yes. He is doing well, very positive. We were talking yesterday and hope he can be available to be part of the group. He is still not part of group training.”
Although Pochettino has since left the club, Fofana’s recovery continues. On Wednesday evening, Fofana posted a photo on Instagram from his holiday in Little Haiti, captioned: “Sea, Strength and Sun. Ready for the next war.” His teammates, including Christopher Nkunku, Omari Hutchinson, and Nicolas Jackson, showed their support by liking the post.
Chelsea’s first pre-season match is scheduled for Wednesday, July 24, at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
