UCL: One Chelsea player blamed for defeat to Real Madrid

Former Chelsea star Chris Sutton has said the club goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is to be blamed for their recent defeat to Spanish club Real Madrid.

According to Sutton, Kepa’s error at the Santiago Bernabeu caused Chelsea to suffer a 2-0 defeat and put them in a difficult situation going into the second leg at Stamford Bridge next week.

Kepa was unable to prevent Marco Asensio from scoring the second goal of the night after Karim Benzema had opened the scoreline.

While Kepa got a hand on the ball, he couldn’t stop it.

“The second goal, I’ve got to say, Kepa has to do much better in my view,” Sutton told the BBC.

“It’s a poor error at this level.

“I think at this level your goalkeeper has to save that. He’s got enough of a hand on that ball to keep it out.

“If [Real Madrid goalkeeper] Thibaut Courtois was in the Chelsea goal he would have saved that,” he added.
