Tuchel reveal plans for Timo Werner
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed his plan for Timo Werner at Stamford Bridge.
Recall that Werner was the Blues central striker last season but was unable to put up an impressive performance, which was what made the club re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Juventus.
The arrival of Lukaku has seen Werner’s playing time reduce drastically, which has raised speculations on his transfer away from the club.
Tuchel, in his statement, has now revealed he plans to play the former RB Leipzig striker alongside Lukaku.
This is because the Belgian striker is known to be a natural No.9 but often prefers the right half-space, while Werner performs better on the left channel to attack into; with this, Tuchel is suggesting the two could click well together.
According to the Blues manager, it was effective during their game vs Tottenham, and he would hope to try it again.
Tuchel stressed that he knows Werner can be more dangerous and a more attacking threat.
“The stuff you don’t see, he’s more relaxed, more fluid in movements, more confidence in his movement. We hope he can show it tomorrow,” he added.
Chelsea will return to action on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup.
