Shearer and Richards Urge Maresca to Back Mudryk for Chelsea Revival
Pundits Alan Shearer and Micah Richards believe that Enzo Maresca is the ideal manager to rejuvenate Mykhailo Mudryk’s career at Chelsea.
Mudryk, who joined Chelsea for £89 million in January 2023, has struggled to replicate his Shakhtar Donetsk form.
Despite scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 41 games, he has yet to find consistent success with the Blues.
The 23-year-old Ukrainian winger remains optimistic, asking fans for patience. “I haven’t reached my full potential yet, but I’m improving,” he said recently. “I need time and support to unlock my best. My teammates and the staff have been incredibly supportive.”
Shearer and Richards believe Maresca can help Mudryk thrive. Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer said, “There’s potential in him. It’s been tough at Chelsea, but with the right guidance, he can excel.”
Richards concurred, adding, “He has talent. He needs a manager who believes in him and gives him a consistent run, even if he has a few bad games. Wingers thrive on confidence.”
Mudryk will have a chance to showcase his skills at Euro 2024, with Ukraine set to start its campaign against Romania on Monday.
This tournament could be a pivotal moment for Mudryk to demonstrate his abilities on an international stage and return to Chelsea with renewed confidence.
