Rudiger opens up on what has kept him at Chelsea
Chelsea defender and Germany international Antonio Rudiger, in a recent statement, has opened up on what has made him remain at Stamford Bridge.
Before the arrival of Thomas Tuchel as the Blues coach, Rudiger was close to leaving the west London club under former manager Frank Lampard who reduced his game time.
Fortunately for the Blues, Lampard was sacked over failure to improve the team, and Tuchel, a former PSG coach, was signed to the club.
Tuchel, on arrival at Stamford Bridge, restored Rudiger to his position and gave him more game time.
Despite reports linking Rudiger with moves away from Stamford Bridge next season over his failure to extend his contract, the German star revealed Tuchel is who has made remain at the club so far.
The centre-back, in a statement with Sky Sport said: “Yeah [I was close to leaving], the way things were going for myself but also for the team, but in the winter period I was not keen to leave, to be honest. It was more in the summer period where I wanted to leave.
“But Thomas Tuchel came and the rest is history. He opened a new door, he played a big role.”
