Romeo Lavia Shares Fitness Update as He Aims for Chelsea Comeback Under Maresca
Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia has provided fans with an encouraging update on his recovery as he looks forward to returning to action under new manager Enzo Maresca at the start of pre-season.
The 20-year-old Belgian joined Chelsea for £53 million last summer following a standout season at Southampton. However, his debut was delayed due to injuries, and he only made his first appearance in December, playing the final 32 minutes against Crystal Palace.
Hopes were high for Lavia to become a regular starter, but a hamstring injury soon after his debut sidelined him for the rest of the season. Chelsea confirmed in March that he would miss the remainder of the campaign.
In a recent Instagram story, Lavia posted a gym selfie with the caption, “bla, bla, bla,” followed by a laughing emoji and a train track emoji, indicating his focus on a strong return. This update comes almost six months after his only appearance in a Chelsea shirt.
Lavia is eager to impress Maresca, who was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor earlier this month. Reflecting on his future under Maresca’s leadership, Lavia is optimistic about the opportunities ahead.
Teammate Cole Palmer has expressed confidence in Lavia’s potential. Palmer told SPORTbible, “One person I’ve played with who’s really good is Romeo Lavia. We haven’t seen him this season because of his injury, but when he starts playing, everyone will see how talented he is.”
Following the departure of Pochettino on May 21, Chelsea appointed Maresca, who expressed his excitement about joining the club. “To join Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world, is a dream for any coach. I look forward to working with a very talented group of players and staff to develop a team that continues the club’s tradition of success and makes our fans proud,” Maresca told Chelsea’s official website.
Lavia’s return is highly anticipated as Chelsea fans and teammates alike look forward to seeing him make a significant impact next season.
