Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has labelled Chelsea’s right-back Reece James as one of the best players in that position in the Premier League.

Recce James was finally given a chance at Chelsea by Frank Lampard after an impressive performance during his loan at Wigan Atletic and he does not look like a player ready to fumble anytime soon.

Having made his first appearance under Thomas Tuchel in Chelsea’s important win against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, Ferdinand has shared his thoughts on the young England international.

According to Rio Ferdinand who is now working as a pundit for BT Sport, the former Wigan Athletic loanee’s showing against Spurs shows he has the necessary credentials to make a memorable career for himself.

Speaking about the right-back, Ferdinand stated that James is a top player and he will be honest, he was very surprised James didn’t start as soon as Tuchel came in some weeks ago.

Ferdinand noted that if Tuchel is watching the videos, James is up there with the best right-backs in the league.

According to Rio Ferdinand who is regarded as one the best defenders in the world, James is a young kid that has great attitude and his delivery of the ball is phenomenal and as an all-round package as a right-back.

James will be hoping he can get a place in Thomas Tuchel’s team when Chelsea face Sheffield United in their next Premier League match.
