Premier League icon reveals what cost Frank Lampard his job at Chelsea
Manchester United legendary defender Gary Neville has revealed what led to Frank Lampard’s sack at Chelsea as he noted that unfulfilled expectations of immediate results ended up costing him the job.
Frank Lampard knew what he signed for when he joined Chelsea last season and he showed his potential by reaching the FA Cup final as well as making the top four.
However, things have not been the same this season as Lampard whose team had once top the league are currently languishing in ninth place, eleven points off the top.
Gary Neville who had suffered similar faith while he was working in Valencia stated that he’s not wholly surprised that Lampard was shown the exit door.
He made this known while speaking to Sky Sports News as he noted that rumours were starting to surface towards the end of the week that Frank was coming under pressure.
And when pressured like that happens at Chelsea, the end is pretty much a consistent one whereby the rumours start to come out and then it happens pretty quickly.
However, Neville stated that he was a little surprised when he heard the news given that Frank has only had a short amount of time with a new group of players.
Despite that, he was given a period last year when the club were under a transfer embargo, and that almost shielded him.
According to Neville, Lampard did a great job last season but the minute Chelsea started spending the money that they did in the summer and brought those players in, it was always going to bring a lot more expectation.
With Chelsea known for wanting instant success, Neville noted that Lampard knew what he was walked into and the inconsistent form and results of the last six weeks have cost him probably a lot sooner than he would’ve imagined.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for former Paris Saint-Germain coach Thomas Tuchel and he could be unveiled before their match against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday.
