Maresca considers Chelsea goalkeeper surplus to requirement
Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga might not be getting a chance to play under the Blues newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca next season.
This comes as reports revealed Arrizabalaga was not training with the rest of the Chelsea’s first team despite reporting for the start of pre-season.
A report via Mail Sport disclosed that Arrizabalaga is considered surplus to requirement by Maresca.
As of now Chelsea want to offload the 29-year-old goalie who spent last season on loan at Real Madrid.
Recall that Arrizabalaga emerged as the most expensive goalkeeper in history, after the Blues paid Spanish club Athletico Bilbao £71.6million to sign him in 2018.
While he has one year left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge, the club’s new hierarchy is looking to recuperate as much of thetransfer fee as possible.
The duo of Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic are available at Stamford Bridge to serve as starter options for Maresca’s first season in charge, while Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom are still on the club’s books.
Amid the ongoing summer transfer window, there have not been any club linked with moves for Kepa.
Chelsea may have to send him out on loan again before the start of next season.
