Former Chelsea star Glen Johnson in a recent statement berated manager Enzo Maresca over how he has been treating  Ben Chilwell.

According to Johnson, the left back is more than good enough to play for the Chelsea.

Chilwell is not getting it easy this summer as he has only played 64 minutes in pre-season and has been told he wasn’t part of the new manager’s plans going forward.

At some point, he was asked to find a new club which didn’t happen.

Manchester United for one were said to have rejected the opportunity to sign the 27-year-old, while Crystal Palace and Ipswich were linked with interest for the left back.

In the long run, the defender remained at Stamford Bridge and the Blues have decided to bring him back in squad until the January transfer window when they will have another opportunity to put up for sale.

Chilwell made it to Chelsea’s squad list after reaching a truce with Maresca by Johnson believes the defender deserves to play for the Blues.

The former player stated that the Argentine didn’t give the defender a chance to impress him on the pitch.

Speaking via Betfred, Johnson said, “I believe it’s silly sometimes when a new manager comes into a club with a preconceived idea of their team.”
