Man Utd close in signing on Barcelona midfielder

The latest report has revealed that Manchester United are closing on signing Barcelona for their midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, this summer for a price tag of £70 million.

According to the Spanish outlet, Sport, Manchester United had been in talks on contract terms with Barcelona for several weeks and a deal is now close to being reached between both clubs for De Jong.

The report added that Barcelona are taking the opportunity to cash in on the 25-year-old as they look to improve their dire financial situation, but Man United still face a fight to convince the Netherlands international to leave the Nou Camp.

Man United manager, Erik ten Hag, and De Jong worked together duringg their time at Ajax.

The new manager wants to build his squad by signing a new midfielder, striker and centre back this summer, especially as Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani leave the club this summer.

It is, however, uncertain that De Jong would want to move to Old Trafford especially as they wouldn’t be playing in the UEFA Champions League football next season, having finished outside the top four on the Premier League table.
