Man City unveil player that will take over Chelsea new star’s shirt number
Following the departure of England International Raheem Sterling, Manchester City have named Joao Cancelo as the player to take over the No.7 shirt at the club ahead of the 2022/2023 season.
The shirt was last worn by Sterling, who now plays for Chelsea.
Before Sterling’s departure, Cancelo wore the no.27 shirt after joining Man City from the Italian side Juventus in 2019.
This is not the first time Cancelo will be wearing no.7 at the club level, having previously worn the same number during his time with Inter Milan.
On the other hand, Erling Haaland, who Man City signed from German club Borussia Dortmund has been handed the No.9 shirt, as he takes over from Gabriel Jesus, who joined the Gunners this summer, while Kalvin Phillips has been handed the No.4.
Julian Alvarez has been granted the No.19, while new goalkeeper Stefan Ortega will take No.18 this term.
This is a massive shakeup in the Man City squad as they hope to lift the UCL next season, having dominated the Premier League for seasons.
