Liverpool continued their Premier League campaign with a draw against Chelsea at Anfield and Virgil van Dijk has been singled out for his performance.
Van Dijk played the full ninety minutes as he continues to recover from the injury that kept him out of the team for the majority of last season.
The Holland international has now been labelled as a ‘once in a generation’ player by BBC pundit Garth Crooks who was impressed with his performance.
Speaking about Van Dijk, Crooks stated that if the shot that had Mendy frantically scrambling across his goal-line was anything to go by, then it looks like Van Dijk’s right knee has fully recovered from the injury he sustained against Everton last season.
Crooks noted that the Netherlands international is slowly but surely coming back to the boil.
According to Crooks, not only is Van Dijk commanding his own penalty area again, he is venturing forward more and becoming a threat in the opposition box adding that defenders like Van Dijk come around once in a generation.
Van Dijk’s presence has helped Liverpool begin the new season on a high as Chelsea remain the only team to breach the reds backline after three games played.
