Lampard criticised over Kante’s role
Former Chelsea star, Glenn Hoddle, has reacted to the club’s interim manager Frank Lampard’z decision on the role he gave midfielder N’Golo Kante during their Premier League 3-1 defeat to Arsenal on Tuesday night.
According to Hoddle, Lampard should have given Kante a more defensive role against Arsenal to bring the best out of the French star.
The Blues lost all three points to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium as Martin Odegaard scored a brace, while a goal from Gabriel Jesus sealed it.
Chelsea were able to score a goal thanks to an effort from Noni Madueke, but it was not enough to save them.
“For me, the midfield, I don’t get [N’Golo] Kante playing in that position going from there,” Hoddle told Premier League Productions.
“I see him as one of the best holding players in the world, defensive midfield players in the world still at 32. Do that job. Do what you are good at and then go and feed people who can go and play in those defensive areas.
“It does not suit him. He can’t go and play on the half turn, he can’t play with his back to play, he can’t score goals from that position. He might come up with one or two from distance playing in a deeper role. You have got to play the right players in the right position.”
