Manchester United midfielder Casemiro sustained a knock during Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela, according to national team boss Fernandeo Diniz.

Casemiro sustained the injury during the World Cup qualifying match last Friday at Arena Pantanal in Cuiaba and he was substituted after 79 minutes.

The home side took a 50th-minute lead through Gabriel Magalhaes and looked set for a victory until Eduard Bello made it 1-1 in the 85th minute with a stunning overhead kick.

Speaking after the match, Brazil manager Diniz provided reporters with more detail on Casemiro’s departure.

“As there was a stop (in play), I decided to make the three substitutions,”

Diniz told Globo Esporte. “We had a lot of control when they came on. Casemiro asked to come off due to a blow to his ankle.”

The severity of the injury is unclear and it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils midfielder will feature in Brazil’s second match of the break, against Facundo Pellistri’s Uruguay on Wednesday.

It is also unknown if he would be fit to play for Man Utd when they play Sheffield United this weekend.
