How Chelsea star was on the verge of leaving Stamford Bridge during deadline day

Marcos Alonso finally made a return to Chelsea’s lineup in their win against Burnley on Sunday afternoon but he almost left Stamford Bridge in the final hours of the transfer window.

The Spaniard has been having a season to forget under Frank Lampard before he was sacked but he was given a fresh hope when former Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel was appointed.

Tuchel gave Alonso his first Premier League appearance since September and the Spaniard did not disappoint as he scored a wonderful volley.

Having been linked with a move out of the club before Frank Lampard was dismissed, Alonso reportedly nearly left Stamford Bridge late on transfer deadline day, before Barcelona pulled the plug.

According to claims by Mundo Deportivo, via SportWitness, Barcelona had to pull out of the deal after they failed to send Junior Firpo to AC Milan late in the window.

Junior Firpo has been linked with a move away from Barcelona and Alonso had been identified as a suitable replacement.

AC Milan were willing to sign Firpo on loan but the Seria A giant pulled out of the deal and this was why Marcos Alonso couldn’t leave Chelsea.

Alonso will be eager to be among the team that will be facing Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday as Thomas Tuchel continue his rebuilding process.
