Former Premier League Midfielder Urges Arsenal to Sign Chelsea Target

Emmanuel Petit has called on Arsenal to prioritize signing Napoli striker Victor Osimhen over Chelsea in the upcoming transfer window.

Osimhen, who is expected to leave Napoli this summer, comes with a hefty release clause estimated between €120 million (£102.6m) and €130 million (£111.2m). The Nigerian international has garnered interest from top clubs across Europe, including Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and Chelsea.

Petit, however, believes Osimhen could be the key to Arsenal’s success in the Premier League title race next season.

“I think Arsenal need a 30-goal striker to finally win the Premier League, and that man could be Victor Osimhen, who has been amazing with Lille and Napoli,” said Petit, speaking on behalf of BoyleSports, which offers the latest Euro 2024 betting odds.

“His dream is to come to England, and he could be brilliant here. He’s physically so strong and is an out-and-out number nine, so he’d be my first choice.”

Petit also mentioned that Marcus Rashford would be a valuable addition to the squad due to his versatility, playing both wide and upfront. He emphasized that to compete with Manchester City, Arsenal needs to bolster their squad with four more high-quality players.

“City can bring on five players with incredible quality, and right now, Arsenal can’t, so they need to have a busy summer ahead,” Petit added.

Petit further expressed confidence in Arsenal’s future as Manchester City’s main challengers for the Premier League title.

“For the last ten years, City has been the benchmark in England and Europe. They are the team to beat, and apart from Liverpool, and now Arsenal, no one has been able to compete against City,” Petit said.

He noted that the gap between Arsenal and City has significantly reduced, and he sees Arsenal on a similar path to Liverpool, potentially winning the Premier League and Champions League soon.

“There is something different this season with Arsenal. Yes, City won four in a row, which is historic and an amazing achievement, but City did not win a single game against Liverpool or Arsenal – which has never happened before,” he observed.

“The gap is so close to City, and Arsenal were extraordinarily unlucky this season. Reaching titles is an open field for everyone, but doing it four times in a row is simply remarkable from Man City.”
