Former Chelsea manager claims Blues star lucky not to see red in Euro 2020 final
Italy came from a goal down to defeat England in the final of Euro 2020, but former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard believes Jorginho was lucky to have finished the game.
Jorginho was one of Italy top performers going into the final on Sunday night, and he continued his excellent form in the midfield department.
However, Jorginho ran the risk of a red card following a dangerous challenge on Aston Villa forward Grealish.
Jorginho, after making contact with the ball, forcefully followed through, and his studs caught Grealish’s left thigh, a move that sparked reactions from England players.
Though Dutch referee Bjorn Kuipers gave a yellow card to Jorginho, Lampard believes he would have been sent off for making the same challenge in a Premier League.
Speaking after the match, Lampard stated that there’d been many good things about VAR, but he’s pretty sure in the Premier League that gets looked at on the monitor, and it’s a red card.
According to Lampard, it’s not always easy to nail them straight away, but he thinks it’s a red card when you see it there
Jorginho failed to convert from the spot-kick, but Italy went on to win with Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka losing the decisive penalty.
