FA Cup: Boost for Chelsea as three Man City sustain injuries against Real Madrid
Chelsea may have been handed majors boost ahead of the game against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi finals this weekend.
While Chelsea thrashed Everton 6-0 in the Premier League on Monday, Man City suffered a defeat to La Liga side Real Madrid in the Champions League as they were kicked out of the tournament.
The match, however, didn’t only end in defeat but some of the Citizens players sustaining injuries.
Erling Haaland who was spotted limping during the match, didn’t return after extra-time, with Julian Alvarez replacing him.
Kevin De Bruyne and Manuel Akanji were also replaced in the 112th minute as manager Pep Guardiola in a post-match statement revealed that all three substitutions were due to injury.
“Erling and Kevin and Manu asked me to go out. They could not continue,” he said.
De Bruyne was spotted holding his hamstring as he looked on in discomfort after indicating to the bench he couldn’t carry on.
Recall that the Belgian star had missed the first five months of the season after undergoing surgery on a hamstring in August.
Meanwhile, Jokso Gvardiol also seemed have sustained an injury as he held his groin in the final minutes of added-time, but managed to finish the game.
