EPL: Why this Chelsea veteran defender will miss match vs Brentford
Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that the Blues will be without their key defender and Brazil international, Thiago Silva, during their next match vs Brentford in the EPL.
With the international break already on, Chelsea will return to action on the 16th of October to play against Brentford but without Silva. The latter would be returning to Stamford Bridge after international duties with his home country.
Tuchel revealed in his statement that the Brazilian centre-half would return on the day of the Brentford game. However, it is not ideal, and there is nothing either party can do otherwise, as FIFA could hand Silva a suspension.
Tuchel said: “Thiago Silva will go and then he will play for Brazil, and then he will come back on the matchday versus Brentford. This is the life of international breaks in 2021. Like it or not, what can I do?”
“He’s our player and he arrives on the matchday back from a country where he then needs to do quarantine. Is this a good solution for us as a club? No, but we cannot hold him back. It’s impossible.
“If they call him, he needs to go, otherwise he gets suspended by FIFA. So there is no choice. You simply have to live with it.”
