Deal AGREED: Chelsea set to announce signing of Rennes star after successful medical
Edouard Mendy will join Chelsea “inevitably” for a reported fee of around £20m, as per report from Sky Sports.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has just reinforced his side broadly with Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz, Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr and Edouard Mendy will soon be joining the list.
Frank Lampard has been looking for another goalkeeper, Andre Onana and Jan Oblak have been referenced, however Chelsea seem to have plumped for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
Edouard Mendy has just passed a medical and the club are nearly declaring the deal.
The 28-year-old could be in contention for a debut against Liverpool with the jury despite everything out on Kepa Arrizabalaga.
The Spaniard was dropped for the last round of last season just as the FA Cup last against Arsenal. While he was beaten from long range on Monday, as Brighton’s Leandro Trossard smashed a shot across him and into the furthest corner from 22 yards.
Giroud trade dismissed
Frank Lampard supported Kepa however on Monday and when tested on the talk Chelsea could be signing another goalkeeper, he stated: “I am content with Kepa Arrizavalaga, I saw confidence in him, he is here, he is our goalkeeper and I am content with him.”
As per report, Rennes attempted to get Olivier Giroud included as a part of the deal, however Chelsea need to keep the Frenchman.
RMC columnist Mohamed Bouhafsi questions whether the deal is that far cutting edge. He asserts the player has agreed a five-year deal, however is still standing by to get the green light to travel to London to complete his anticipated move.
Still no deal reached between #Rennes & #Chelsea for Édouard #Mendy. The player is ready & waiting to fly to London when he gets the green light to do so, has agreed a 5-year contract with CFC.
