David Raya sends message to Ramsdale

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has sent a message to his colleague Aaron Ramsdale on the need to “fight for the team” if he returns to the Gunners squad

This is coming after Raya, who arrived at Arsenal in the summer on loan displaced Ramsdale for the club’s No 1 shirt.

Ramsdale who had started for the North London in every Premier League game since March 2022 was suddenly replaced by Raya on Sunday during Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Everton.

Raya also retained his spot for Arsenal’s first Champions League game since 2017 as the Gunners defeated PSV in a 4-0 win on Wednesday.

When asked about manager Mikel Arteta’s decision to promote him to the starting XI, Raya told Skysport: “That’s his choice, it’s not my choice.

“If Aaron comes back in he needs to fight for the team and to win games.

“I think it’s the first time that two top goalies are on the same team. That’s just part of football now.

“The gaffer wants two top players for each position and that’s what we have to work with.”
