Chelsea’s Thomas Tuchel refuses to be drawn into battle for top four

As Chelsea prepare to face Sheffield United on Sunday night, club manager Thomas Tuchel has refused to be drawn into top battle.

Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard when the team were languishing in the ninth spot on the table and had been able to turn their fortunes around in recent weeks.

Chelsea have played three games under Tuchel, accumulating seven points as well as keeping three clean sheets.

This has brought back the hope of Champions League football but the German tactician has refused to get drawn into assessments of the battle for a top-four finish.

Instead, Tuchel prefers to focus on finding improvements within his team amid a congested schedule.

Speaking with the club website, Tuchel stated that his team cannot influence other results or what the other teams do as they have enough to do to take care of themselves.

He noted that there are too many teams between Chelsea and the Champions League places but his approach is to take it step by step.

According to the former Paris Saint-Germain manager, the most important thing now is that his team don’t lose the focus and they take care of the atmosphere in the dressing room so they can compete again on Sunday.

He noted that once you raise your head and look more than one game ahead, you lose your focus, he doesn’t know any other approach, maybe other coaches do it differently but for him, it’s not possible.

Tuchel added that his team prepare and then wait for the next big match to arrive because it starts at 0-0 and if they want to get points they have to earn them.
