Chelsea’s Pursuit of Samu Omorodion Boosted Following £26m Atletico Deal

Chelsea’s pursuit of Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion has received a significant boost following the confirmation of a £26 million deal for Alexander Sorloth.

The 20-year-old Omorodion is being targeted to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s attacking options for the upcoming season.

Omorodion, who had a successful loan spell at Alaves last season, is seen as an ideal candidate to provide competition for Nicolas Jackson, who made 44 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions last season.

Chelsea aims to ease Jackson’s workload with the addition of Omorodion. Although Atletico Madrid initially rebuffed Chelsea’s £34 million offer, Sorloth’s arrival might change their stance on Omorodion’s future.

Alexander Sorloth, 28, brings a wealth of experience to Atletico Madrid, having scored 23 goals and provided six assists in 34 league appearances last season with Villarreal. His presence is expected to place him ahead of Omorodion in the pecking order, potentially paving the way for Omorodion’s departure.

Irati Prat, Atletico correspondent for Marca, indicated that Atletico Madrid might consider selling Omorodion if a substantial offer is made. Prat suggested that while the club is undergoing a squad reconstruction, they recognize Omorodion’s value and potential appeal across Europe. An offer significantly exceeding £33 million could be persuasive.

Previously, Chelsea considered signing Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran but had concerns about his attitude.

In contrast, Omorodion has received positive character assessments. He is described as humble and highly self-demanding, qualities that align with Chelsea’s values.

Omorodion’s development from playing in Spain’s Fourth Division to joining Atletico Madrid within a year is a testament to his potential. He is praised for his physical prowess and capabilities in open pla, though he still needs to refine his finishing skills.
