Chelsea’s £232m Leicester Connection: Dewsbury-Hall Joins Blues for £30m
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall is the latest addition to Chelsea’s squad, signing from Leicester City for £30 million.
The 25-year-old midfielder, who spent 17 years at Leicester, has agreed to a five-year contract with an optional extra year at Stamford Bridge.
This transfer continues a trend of players moving from Leicester to Chelsea in recent years.
Dewsbury-Hall reunites with former manager Enzo Maresca, who also joined Chelsea this summer after successfully leading Leicester back to the Premier League.
Chelsea’s history of acquiring talent from Leicester includes several high-profile transfers.
It began with N’Golo Kante’s £32 million move in 2016, followed by Danny Drinkwater for £35 million in 2017, and Ben Chilwell for £50 million in 2020.
More recently, Wesley Fofana joined Chelsea for £75 million in 2022. Adding the latest £30 million for Dewsbury-Hall and £10 million compensation for Maresca and his staff, Chelsea’s spending on Leicester talent totals an astounding £232 million over the past eight years.
While some transfers have yielded more success than others, Dewsbury-Hall aspires to make a significant impact at Chelsea.
His debut might come in the Premier League opener against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge. Despite ending last season on crutches due to an injury during Leicester’s promotion celebrations, he is expected to be fit for the start of the new campaign.
