Chelsea are reportedly set to trigger a buy out clause in Saul Niguez’s contract that will see them sign him permanently from Spanish club Atletico Madrid.

This comes amid the sanction placed on Chelsea owing to their links with Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

According to the sanctions placed on Chelsea by the UK government, they cannot sign new players or renew contracts; it is yet to be seen how they plan to bypass this in Saul’s case.

Saul joined the Blues from Atletico Madrid on loan in the summer, with an option to buy clause to make the deal permanent in the summer.

While the midfielder has struggled to break into the Blue’s first team under coach Thomas Tuchel, unlike the previous report that had claimed he would return to Atletico for the 2022-23 season.

A recent report via The Mirror has claimed that the Blues manager wants Saul to remain at Stamford Bridge.

This means the Blues will have to pay £29.3m to sign him permanently.

So far this season, Saul has scored just one goal in 20 games for the Blues in the 2021-22 season.
