Chelsea to offer Mendy a new contract
Chelsea are set to offer their number one goalkeeper Edouard Mendy a new contract.
Recall that the Senegal international who joined Chelsea from Rennes in September 2020, went on to impress at Stamford Bridge despite being brought in as an alternative to Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Mendy proved his worth at Chelsea and replaced Kepa as the Blues’ first goalkeeper as they won the Champions League during his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The Daily Mail, report that the Blues officials believe that their first-choice stopper is worthy of an increase in wages.
As of now, Mendy is one of the lowest earners in the senior squad at a time when new signing Raheem Sterling has reportedly been made the club’s highest-earning player.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly is also said to be keen to hand new contracts to the likes of Reece James and Mason Mount.
The report, however, claims that the Blues are yet to get anywhere near to the demands of Mendy and his representatives.
This is coming at a time when Chelsea are close to losing Kepa to Napoli, who have shown interest in him.
