Chelsea to make Benfica midfielder their most expensive player
In a bid to welcome a new player this January, the latest report has revealed that Chelsea are set to make Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez their most expensive signing in the history of the Premier League.
As of now, Chelsea remain on the negotiation table with the Portuguese side over the structure of a club-record deal of £112 million to sign the Argentine.
If the is finalised, Fernandez would become the most expensive signing in Chelsea’s history, surpassing Romelu Lukaku’s move from Seria A side Inter Milan in the summer of 2021.
This will also see the midfielder become the fourth most expensive transfer in history and Benfica’s biggest-ever sale.
There are reports that the 21-year-old has agreed on personal terms with Chelsea and also even failed to show up for Benfica training to force a move to Stamford Bridge.
The reports revealed the West London side want to pay the transfer fee in three £37.5m instalments as they strive to stay in line with UEFA financial fair play rules.
This is because Chelsea are among four Premier League clubs on a UEFA financial watch list.
