Chelsea suffer injury blow as Lukaku and Werner will be out for a few days

Chelsea strikers Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku have picked up injuries during the Blues clash vs Swedish side Malmo in the UCL on Wednesday night at Stamford Bridge.

This comes after coach Thomas Tuchel played the two strikers during their game vs Malmo.

Lukaku had lasted 22 minutes in the first half before picking a calf issue; Werner could not make it to halftime before sustaining an injury.

Werner’s injury came when he attempted to get into the box to provide an option for a low cross but was pulled up once he entered the six-yard box.

Although he was treated for what appeared to be a hamstring problem, however, the medical team quickly indicated that the attacker needed to be withdrawn from the match.

Callum Hudson-Odoi came in as a substitute for Werner, with Kai Havertz having substituted Lukaku earlier.

Despite the absence of their two strikers from the match, Chelsea went on to win the game with a 4-0 scoreline, thanks to efforts from Andreas Christensen, Jorginho and Havertz.

Chelsea manager, in a post-match statement, has now confirmed that Werner and Lukaku will be out of the Blues game for some days.

“We won games before without Timo and also without Romelu, we don’t want these problems too often, but you cannot hide from the fact that these things happen during a season,” Tuchel said.
