Chelsea Set to Break 10-Year Transfer Trend with Striker Signings

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to break a decade-long transfer pattern by signing two senior strikers in the same window, as the club edges closer to a potential £84.5 million deal for Napoli star Victor Osimhen.

The last time the Blues made such a bold move was back in 2014, under the management of José Mourinho. Entering his second season following his return to Stamford Bridge, Mourinho was determined to address Chelsea’s lack of firepower—an issue that had cost them dearly in the Premier League title race. That summer, Chelsea brought in Diego Costa, Didier Drogba, and Loïc Rémy, reinforcing their attacking options with three senior centre-forwards.

Fast forward to 2025, and Chelsea once again find themselves in a similar position. Despite spending heavily in recent years, the club has yet to settle on a consistent and reliable No. 9. Under new head coach Enzo Maresca, there is now a clear intention to reshape the forward line, with Osimhen viewed as a marquee solution.

Osimhen, who has established himself as one of Europe’s top strikers, would bring pace, power, and proven goal-scoring pedigree to Stamford Bridge. While Chelsea have already added young attacking talent in recent windows, Maresca is said to be pushing for experienced firepower to lead the line.

If the Blues complete the Osimhen deal and move for a second striker, it would mark the first time in over a decade that Chelsea have signed two senior forwards in one summer—underlining the club’s commitment to returning to title contention.
